I own a Dell Demensions 2400 computer, the speakers are shot and I know that my mom is getting a new computer and is getting rid of her elderly one (an old brand call Micron) could I just use her speakers or do I own to buy new ones?

You should be capable of use her speakers no problem.
More than likely if they enjoy same hookup.Or just buy topical set not all that expensive underneath $10.00.
