chkdsk freezing at stage 4 - 0%?

When i use chkdsk the scan freezes at 0% at stage 4. is within a better (preferably free) piece of software to fix my disks?

The software that came next to Windows is about the best that you can gain. Try rebooting into SAFE MODE, then running it.



If you hear unusual scrape sounds from your hard drive, only maybe the problem cannot be fixed?

It's average. Stage 4 is very long. I did chkdsk yesterday and it took around 1h30min
stage 4 take a very long time, its a surface scan, no situation if theres data here or not, it'll still go at impossible to tell apart godawful speed till the end!! ususaly take me 2 hours to do one
Sounds like you enjoy some problems on the hard drive and it is not frozen but merely stuck at the 4% range... This can filch some time before it get to 5% or more.... I would walk away and check pay for in 30-40 minutes...



Also, check the Hard drive leisure LED to se if it is flashing... This will trully tell you if the system is frozen...
Yes, Scandisk it is module of Windows, and it works better than Chkdsk.
If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem beside device drivers, hardware or software.
