small snap, very soon 18 mo old, presario desk top quit. very soon if you plug it in green lighting on back of power pack on push start button power pack hanger-on split second wiggles and green oil lamp goes out. reset oil lamp by unplugging cord that is adjectives that happens very soon.

Unfortunately it could be anything - I had duplicate symptom with a desktop at home. I believe it be a bad CPU.
You might luck out and hold it be just a fruitless switch, but most likely it is the CPU.

Your 18 year computer quit what a shocker. I had a HP and it quit after a 7 year lifespand. Guess near is only one piece to do. Drive to best buy they have tons of great computers lower than $600
